Message from Management

On behalf of my management team, I want to express our gratitude for your ongoing support for our operations at MUFG.

 

MUFG launched its new Medium-Term Business Plan (MTBP) in April this year, and I would like to take this opportunity to say a few words.

 

The tides of change exemplified by GX and DX^(note) are further accelerating in the wake of the COVID-19 pandemic. We are also in an era of unprecedented “division” at many levels, such as among nations, economic, and individuals.

MUFG has a solid foundation of trust, credibility, as well as a strong customer base. MUFG’s global network of Group companies leverages the power of finance to connect the world, including fund settlement, financial intermediation, and asset inheritance. By fully utilizing these strengths and providing the means for people to “connect” in this era of growing divisions, MUFG aspires to create not only economic value but also societal value and empower all of our stakeholders to forge ahead.

In addition to the structural shifts occurring in society and the economy, Japan is returning to a world with interest rates, driving increased momentum for asset management. Having substantially improved our earning power and strengthened our business model over the course of our previous MTBP, we are now positioning our new MTBP as “Three years to pursue and produce growth” in order to capitalize on these opportunities.

In our new MTBP, in addition to sustainable growth we will further strengthen our initiatives with a focus on contribution to solve social issues. We will also accelerate our corporate transformation with a view to medium- to long-term growth, including strengthening our management foundation and transforming our corporate culture.
